On this auspicious occasion of Saka Dawa (Buddha Shakyamuni's Birth, Enlightenment, and Paranirvana, May 23), GSTDL invites you to a Nyung Ne retreat. This powerful fasting practice purifies negativities and helps us accumulate merit.

Requirements

Those that are eligible to attend the retreat must have received the Avalokiteshvara (Chenrezig) Empowerment or any highest level tantra initiations.

Saturday, May 18, 2024

1st session starts at 5 am

Last session ends at 6 pm

* Lunch meal must be taken before noon (no meat or eggs, onions, garlic, or radishes).  Light beverages can be taken throughout the day. (No juice with pulp. A little milk may be added to tea or coffee, but a glass of milk may not be taken. No intoxicants.)

**The Eight Mahayana precepts are taken for two days. These are to abandon:

  1. Killing
  2. Stealing
  3. Sexual Activity
  4. Lying
  5. Intoxicants
  6. Sitting on high or expensive beds or seats
  7. Singing, dancing, or playing music; wearing perfumes, ornaments, or cosmetics
  8. Eating at improper times

* The second day, fasting all day, including no water.

Monday, May 20, 2024

One session only starting at 7 am and ending at 9 am

* Fasting will be broken after the end of the session. Light breakfast will be provided.

** Due to being a work day, you may opt out to attend this day.

What to Bring

  1. Mala to be used only for Chenrezig mantra
  2. Vajra and Bell (only for those who have received initiation)
  3. Mandala set (if you would like to offer during the sadhana).
  4. Nyung Ne retreat booklet will be available during the time of the retreat.
